If you’ve been struggling to evade the more aggressive wildlife in Subnautica 2, Unknown Worlds has answered your prayers. Subnautica 2’s latest hotfix tweaks some of the more troublesome wildlife, making them more forgiving so you can actually stand a chance out there in the deep blue sea. But don’t start plotting your revenge against the infamous Hammerheads yet. Subnautica 2 still stands firmly against combat, and we’re here for that decision, too.
What Actually Changed In the Subnautica 2 Hotfix
The main tweaks involved adjusting the behavior of the wildlife in Subnautica 2, with a particular emphasis on three of the game’s main offenders.
Subnautica 2 has been out for a few weeks now, which means players have had a chance to have their feelings heard. And the masses have not been shy about sharing their frustrations involving one pesky predator—the Hammerheads. Hammerheads in Subnautica 2 are the bane of many players’ existence.
They are known to be hyperaggressive, even following players all the way back to their bases and refusing to get off their lawns. This was addressed in a previous update, but Hammerheads are still far from perfect. The most recent issue being that they relentlessly hone in on Tadpoles, even if they’re completely stationary and there’s no one inside them. This was one of the most appreciated amendments in the recent hotfix.
Hammerheads no longer attack stationary Tadpoles, but they will still take an interest in them. This is acceptable, as they are curious creatures at the end of the day, and not having your Tadpoles relentlessly mauled when they’re not even moving is the ultimate goal after all. Players and Hammerheads might still have a long way to go in terms of forming lasting friendships, but at least peace seems more achievable now.
In addition to getting those pesky Hammerheads off players’ backs, changes were also made to Marrowbreaches and Nibblers. Marrowbreaches’ attack speed has been reduced, but they deal more damage per hit. This is an acceptable tradeoff, making them seem more deliberate in their actions and far less overwhelming. Nibblers’ perception range has also been reduced, so players will be detected by them less often. Their attack speed was lowered, as well, making them more forgiving.
Subnautica 2 Hotfix Notes
While the points above are some of the biggest changes, they’re far from the only changes. Other things have been tweaked behind the scenes to make the Subnautica 2 experience more smooth, stable and enjoyable from a performance standpoint. Find the complete list of hotfix notes below!

- Fixed Frame Generation not being available in certain versions of the game.
- Upgraded DLSS to version 4.5.
- Reduced Interior Wall costs to 1/4 of their previous price.

- Fixed Hammerheads occasionally not being attracted to Flares.
- Increased overall damage of Marrowbreaches.
- Spaced out Marrowbreach attacks to occur less frequently.
- Reduced Nibbler perception range, making players less visible to them.
- Increased the duration Nibblers circle the player before attacking.
- Reduced overall movement speed of the Nibblers.
- Increased sensitivity of the Nibblers to the Multitool.
- Increased overall damage of Nibblers.
- Fixed a rare crash when starting games.
- Fixed Clients (not the game host) reverting to their previous position when rejoining a multiplayer session.
- Fixed Strike Armor modification stacking additively, which could result in a potentially game-breaking state.
- Fixed goggles remaining visible in first-person view when exiting the Tadpole Haul Chassis as a passenger.
- Localized text callout on the Terms of Service acceptance screen.
- Added additional context to crash reports to provide better details for hard-to-reproduce issues.
