Shillong, June 7: Shooters from North Garo Hills delivered a strong performance at the 5th Shillong Open Shooting Championship, winning five medals across rifle and pistol events and highlighting the growing shooting talent emerging from the district.
The championship, held in Shillong from June 6 to 7, saw athletes from the Shooting Association of North Garo Hills (SANGH) secure three silver and two bronze medals.
Leading the medal haul was Anthony D. Marak, who won a silver medal in the ISSF 10-metre Men’s Pistol event. Rakku D. Momin added another silver in the 10-metre Men’s Pistol (NR) category, while Jerash K. Marak secured silver in the ISSF 10-metre Men’s Rifle competition.
In the youth section, Giting Rani M. Momin emerged as one of the association’s standout performers, claiming two bronze medals in the 10-metre Pistol event in both the Youth and Junior categories.
SANGH President Davis C.K. Sangma congratulated the medal winners and praised all participants for their dedication and discipline throughout the competition.
“The achievements of our shooters have brought pride and recognition to North Garo Hills. Their performances reflect the hard work and commitment they have put into the sport,” Sangma said in a statement.
The association noted that the success at the Shillong Open Championship demonstrates the growing potential of shooting sports in the district and expressed confidence that the young athletes would continue to achieve greater success in future state and national competitions.
The five-medal haul marks one of SANGH’s strongest performances at a major state-level shooting event, providing a boost to the development of the sport in North Garo Hills.
