Jewar’s Noida International Airport welcomed its first commercial passenger flight on Monday morning, marking the beginning of regular operations at the newly built aviation hub in Uttar Pradesh. The inaugural IndiGo service from Lucknow touched down at the airport at 7:55 am, nearly three months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the facility on March 28.

Noida International Airport Begins Operation

Noida International Airport in Jewar commenced commercial operations on Monday with an IndiGo flight from Lucknow, marking a new aviation hub for Uttar Pradesh. Akasa Air will begin services on June 16, and cargo operations are set for June 17.

First Commercial Flight Receives Grand Welcome

IndiGo flight 6E-2278 departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow and became the first commercial passenger aircraft to land at Noida International Airport. The arrival was met with applause from passengers onboard, who celebrated the milestone landing.

As part of aviation tradition, the aircraft was greeted with a water cannon salute after touching down, symbolising the commencement of commercial services at the airport.

The return flight, IndiGo 6E-2279, is scheduled to depart from Noida International Airport at 6:55 pm and reach Lucknow at 8 pm.

More Airlines Set to Join Operations

The airport’s flight network is set to expand further this week. Akasa Air will begin daily services connecting Noida with Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai from June 16, becoming the second airline to operate from the airport.

While passenger operations have now commenced, cargo services are also expected to begin shortly. According to an earlier announcement by Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), the airport’s first cargo flight is scheduled for June 17. The initial cargo operations will serve domestic routes.

Boost to Uttar Pradesh Connectivity

The launch of the Noida-Lucknow air link is expected to provide travellers with a faster alternative to existing transport options. Many passengers travelling between the two cities currently rely on flights through Delhi’s airport or undertake long road journeys.

Officials believe the direct connection will strengthen links between key administrative, commercial and business centres within Uttar Pradesh. The route is also expected to contribute to the state’s growing aviation infrastructure and improve travel convenience for residents and businesses alike.

Modern Infrastructure and Tight Security Measures

Noida International Airport has been developed under a public-private partnership model by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.

The airport features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft. It is equipped with advanced aviation infrastructure, including an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and modern airfield lighting to support safe operations.

Authorities have also implemented an extensive security framework at the airport. The facility is protected by AI-enabled surveillance systems, while nearly 1,030 personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have been deployed to oversee security operations. In addition, the Uttar Pradesh Police has established a dedicated police station within the airport premises to enhance safety and coordination.
