Debapratim De has been appointed as chief economist at Deloitte in the UK. He takes on the role from the beginning of June 2026.
Having joined Deloitte 16 years ago as an economist, Debapratim De – commonly known as Debo – most recently held the position of director of economic research. In that capacity, he played a key role in shaping the firm’s thinking on macroeconomics and the corporate sector.
He also advises clients on emerging economic and financial market themes, as well as being a regular commentator on economic and fiscal events in the media.
In his new role, alongside covering the business cycle, Debapratim De will expand the firm’s economic analysis of geopolitics, AI and energy markets as they transform the landscape for business.

He succeeds Ian Stewart, who has served as Deloitte’s UK chief economist for 19 years. Taking on the role amid the 2007-2008 financial crisis, Stewart has spent close to two decades advising Deloitte clients on macro-economics and financial markets developments – but is now set to retire.
“It has been a true privilege to work closely with Ian Stewart for over a decade and a half,” Debapratim De added. “I’m honoured to now lead the firm’s outstanding team of economists and our distinguished economic commentary.”
