Free GTA 5 Upgrade Officially Announced for June 18

If you have GTA 5 on the PS4 or the digital version on the Xbox One, listen up! As of June 18, 2026, you will be able to upgrade your GTA 5 game to current-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S completely free of charge! This Rockstar Games announcement came alongside information regarding the new GTA Online: Kortz Center Heist update coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in July 2026.

This free GTA 5 upgrade features “vast technical improvements,” easy story migration so you can carry your save file over, and other new features, like Hao’s Special Works, high-performance vehicles, all your Career Progress rewards, and plenty of other fancy upgrades. Gamers will be able to experience an enhanced version of the game, and the best part is, it won’t even cost them a cent.

If you’ve only got GTA 5 on the PC, don’t worry! You can still join in the festivities. PC players can enjoy all the above features, as well as other PC-exclusive perks, such as ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, by upgrading from Legacy to Enhanced for free.
