Well, it finally happened. GTA 6’s pricing has been revealed at last, and while it’s still a hard pill to swallow, the news isn’t quite as bad as some were fearing. It’s long been rumored that due to GTA 6‘s popularity, Rockstar Games could charge whatever they wanted for the game, and people would still buy it. This is a valid concern.
GTA 5 is one of the highest-selling games ever, and GTA 6 is shaping up to be one of the biggest game releases of all time. It is entirely true that the game will sell even if it costs an arm and a leg. Rockstar has a lot of power when it comes to the pricing of GTA 6, and the result could set a precedent that reshapes game pricing as a whole. But luckily, it looks like Rockstar was reasonably responsible with the pricing of their latest masterpiece.
GTA 6 Preorder Date Officially Released
GTA 6 preorders officially begin on June 25, 2026, bringing fans one step closer to Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated November 19 release date.
GTA 6 has two editions. The Standard Edition, which is priced at $79.99 USD, and the Ultimate Edition, priced at $99.99 USD. These prices were announced as preorders for the game opened, which means you can officially reserve your copy now! Preorders come with bonuses, as well, to sweeten the deal. Anyone with a preorder also receives the following:
- Vintage Vice City Pack
- Bonus cosmetic items
- One month of GTA+ (depending on who you purchase your preorder from.)
$79.99 is on the expensive side when it comes to video games, but the trend for AAA titles has been leaning that way, so the price for the Standard Edition is reasonable. $99.99 USD, on the other hand, is very pricey. It is an ‘Ultimate Edition,’ though, meaning it contains more content. You do get more bang for your buck, and there are other ‘ultimate’ or ‘premium’ versions of games that go for around the same price. At launch, Starfield’s Digital Premium Edition and Diablo IV’s Ultimate Edition both sold for $99.99, as well. It’s expensive, but it’s not unheard of.
What’s the Difference Between the Standard and Ultimate Editions of GTA 6?
Let’s address the big, dollar sign-shaped elephant in the room. Is the Ultimate Edition worth the extra cost? It does come with several features and inclusions that the Standard Edition doesn’t have, so the two games are significantly different. Here’s a side-by-side comparison so you can see for yourself:

So the Ultimate Edition includes extra customization options, cosmetic items, and two bonus quests. The customization and cosmetic items aren’t enough to make the extra $20 worth it in my opinion, but those two extra quests are another story. The fact that the Ultimate Edition has added gameplay is likely enough to tip many players over the edge.
Is There a Disc Version Of GTA 6?
One of the biggest qualms players are having with the GTA 6 pricing reveal is the nature of the game itself. Both the Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition versions that are currently available for preorder are digital codes only. There is currently no disc-based version of the game available to preorder. This is a big problem for many.
But don’t panic yet! It appears that a disc-based version of GTA 6 is, supposedly, on the horizon. According to Vice, after receiving an onslaught of complaints regarding a disc-edition of GTA 6, Rockstar Support responded, stating the following: “Please note that the current preorder are indeed just for a digital only update you will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months.”
The pricing was revealed due to the fact that the preorders began on June 25th. Therefore, only preorder versions of the game were announced. Based on Rockstar Support’s response, it appears a physical disc may be available in the coming months, potentially around the game’s November 19 release.
