Saturn-Neptune Conjunction
A Saturn-Neptune conjunction takes place approximately once every 36 years. The last time the conjunction took place, it fell in earth sign Capricorn in 1989. One of the most obvious symbols was the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Saturn is the planet of boundaries and Neptune dissolves what it touches. Old structures and traditions collapse when these two planets come together. This is evident out in the world right now as the old rules are falling away or being destroyed.
The fall of the Berlin Wall led to the end of the Cold War in 1991. When Saturn and Neptune are working together, they can be about socialist ideals and new political ideologies emerging. There can be a deep commitment to morality and a strong social conscience.
Saturn Neptune New Beginnings
On February 20, Saturn and Neptune make their epic conjunction at 0° Aries, the first degree of the zodiac and a powerful symbol of new beginnings.
Both planets have been moving in and out of Pisces, the last star sign, and Aries, the first star sign. Their journey is now complete. And, on a personal level, it’s worth considering what you’re starting as these two planets come together.
Look back to the middle of last year when Saturn and Neptune were side-by-side in early degrees Aries, in June, July & August 2025. What were you seeding back then and preparing the way for?
Perhaps, you were born on one of the previous Saturn/Neptune conjunctions, i.e. around 1917, 1952, 1989. When you have the signature in your horoscope, it’s often relevant for you when the same signature is playing out in the heavens.
Who Wins – Saturn Or Neptune?
You can explore the symbolism of a conjunction in different ways, i.e. which planet is stronger or are they working together as a team?
Saturn represents order while Neptune’s realm is chaos. Saturn represents reality while Neptune’s realm is dreams and illusion. Saturn’s realm can be the material world, although he’s also the shaman. Neptune rules art, poetry and music, drink and drugs, sacrifice and surrender, the collective unconscious – it’s where you lose yourself in life, sometimes in a good way, sometimes not.
You could say that Saturn’s coming along to knock sense into Neptune’s fantasy world. This is because Saturn is the planet of reality while Neptune represents seduction and scams, betrayal and illusion. Be wary of wearing rose-coloured glasses and falling prey to lies when Neptune’s active.
Neptune wants a shortcut to bliss and transcendence, yet Saturn’s a reminder of the importance of commitment and discipline, especially on the spiritual path.
Or, as happened during the fall of the Berlin Wall, Neptune dissolves what it touches and washes away strong foundations. There’s a theme of surrender or letting go of control, putting your faith in an idealistic world, a world that believes in oneness and unity. There can be a turning away from materialism and a calling to a life of spirit.
The flip side of this conjunction can be fear or paranoia when the more negative aspects of the two planets are playing out. Be wary of losing yourself and note that themes of martyrdom can be linked to this combination.
At their best, when Saturn and Neptune are working together, Saturn can help turn Neptune’s dreams and visions into reality. Saturn’s the business plan, the practical steps that breathe life into Neptune’s visionary ways.
Saturn Neptune Aries Themes
Saturn will remain in Aries until April 2028 but Neptune will be in the first star sign for a lot longer, until 2038/39.
We don’t know entirely how this is going to play out in the world but we can already see some themes emerging.
Here are a few ideas aside from what’s happening politically and out in the world – let me know your thoughts in the comments below:
- A move away from social media and smartphones and new rules being put in place – one of the downsides of the Neptune in Pisces era (2011-2026) has been the loss of self through technology that zones us out, endless scrolling and binge-watching. Aries favours real human in-person connections and Saturn is the planet of rules and regulations.
- Less persuasion and lies from mass media (Neptune/Pisces realm) and more truthful journalism – although, right now, that seems like a shot in the dark but here’s hoping.
- A turning away from false spiritual gurus and conspiracy theories – another arena where lies and illusion have dominated and the true meaning of spirituality has become corrupted.
- More emphasis on personal responsibility and self-care of the body – the Neptune Pisces era has seen a huge rise in medication and drugs.
- An urgency around climate change and cleaning up the oceans. Also, fights over water. In general, water becoming a major issue. Neptune’s recent move into Aries has seen a lot of rain and floods around the world. Aries wants results and fast.
- Another virus – the Saturn/Pluto conjunction in January 2020 was the astrological symbol for covid.
Working With Saturn Neptune Aries
Wherever Aries falls in your horoscope, there may be a theme of sacrifice or surrender. You might be on a deeply spiritual path or decide to devote your life to your beliefs or ideals.
You may be committed to a cause that’s dear to your heart. At its best, use Saturn and Neptune together to preserve the arts or pursue a creative, compassionate or charitable vocation.
Be wary of falling into fear or doubt which is the negative side of this combination. Saturn and Neptune together can be a symbol of guilt or shame. Collective grief is a theme of this pairing as Saturn is Old Father Time and Neptune, the vale of tears.
Don’t let addictions spiral out of control and put your faith in healing and miracles. Practise self-forgiveness and remember that finding peace and contentment is an inner process.
On a personal level, you’re likely to be aware of this powerful conjunction if you have planets/angles close to 29° Pisces & 0° Aries, with its theme of endings and beginnings, omega or alpha.
Otherwise, it might start to make more sense what this means for you once the personal planets begin to interact with Neptune. The planet of relating Venus is first on March 7/8 followed by the Sun on March 22/25. Action planet Mars is next on April 13/19 and finally communication planet Mercury on April 17/20.
