More and more research is supporting my long-held belief that reclassification of ELLs is mostly harmful to many of our students (see I’ve Always Thought “Reclassification” Of ELLs Was The Wrong Priority & New Research Supports That Position and Even More Research Suggests That Focusing On ELL Reclassification Is The Wrong Priority).
Now, yet another study has come out finding that reclassified ELLs in Texas have their chances of high school graduation decreased.
Check out the study (not behind a paywall): Bulwark or Barrier? The Effect of Academic Criteria-Based Reclassification on the High School Outcomes of Multilingual Learners in Texas
How about we focus on what’s best for students, instead of of emphasizing some made-up measurement?
I’m adding this info to The Best Resources For Learning About The Ins & Outs Of Reclassifying ELLs.
