Trawl assembly for T-72/T-90 Tanks
BEML Limited, a public sector enterprise and a manufacturer of defence equipment under the Ministry of Defence has been awarded a ₹590 crore contract by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, for the supply of trawl assemblies to be deployed on the Indian Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks.
The contract was formally signed and exchanged between senior officials of both organisations in New Delhi.
The advanced mine trawls have been indigenously designed and developed in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), specifically its R&D Engineers unit based in Pune.
This system substantially reduces dependence on foreign imports.
Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director, BEML Limited, said, “Our collaboration with DRDO is a testament to the strength of India’s defence R&D ecosystem. This order reinforces our steadfast commitment to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and our resolve to equip the nation’s armed forces with reliable, high-quality, and indigenously developed solutions.”
Equipped with multi-layered mine-clearing mechanisms, these trawl systems will significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces in combat zones by creating safe passage for mechanised forces.
This will improve their mobility, survivability, and operational momentum, offering a decisive advantage in modern battlefield environments.
