Iran War LIVE: US President Donald Trump said he has extended the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 10 days, “at the request of the Iranian government”. While announcing a pause on strikes targeting Iranian energy infrastructure, Trump also said that talks with Tehran are “going well”.
The deadline, which had already passed on March 23, has now been extended to April 6.
“As per the Iranian government’s request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of energy plant destruction by 10 days, to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
The move comes a day after Iran rejected Trump’s 15-point peace plan, stating that the war would end on its own terms.
Earlier in the day, Trump held his first cabinet meeting since the war started, saying that he was not “desperate” to make a deal with Iran.
Meanwhile, Iran has so far not commented on the talks and negotiations with the US.
