Throughout May, I’ve been working with students on some advanced profections material.
In class, students have so far learned about derived houses and profections, timing of natal aspects with profections, how the profections process from Abu Ma’Shar works and the handing over/taking over technique from Valens.
Here’s a quick snapshot of some of these techniques in action using Harper Lee’s chart.
Lee had moved to New York to pursue writing, in the hopes of becoming a published author. In class we took a look at the year she turned 30, which is a 7th house profection year.
A Lucky Gift and Timely Support: Seventh House Profection
The year she was 30, Lee finally secured an agent for her writing, and at Christmas was given a year’s wages from dear friends so she could take time off from her job to focus on writing.
Looking at the natal 7th, ruled by Mercury, you might wonder why such important developments occurred then.
Lee has Mercury in Aries in the 7th house. Her derived 11th house for that year was the natal 5th house, which holds Mars and Jupiter.
As this is a generally favorable aspect in her natal chart this bodes well for help, support or encouragement from friends, perhaps specifically for a 5th house type project. It doesn’t hurt that Mars is her timelord for the Aries profection year too.
Linking Past and Future Years to the Current Profection
In that 7th house year, a process of the nature of Mars that began two years prior, in the Aquarius profection year, comes to completion. This might show the important developments around a creative project that has been bubbling away for a couple of years.
Additionally, a separate process of the nature of Mercury begins, that will continue for two years, until a future profection reaches the Gemini house and Mercury becomes the timelord.
This times an intensive period of rewriting and reworking the manuscript, as in Lee’s own words, she was a new writer with a messy first draft, so she took all the advice of her editor and agent to make improvements. The book was almost completely re-written in this period.
Mercury Hands Over to Venus Exalted in Pisces
Looking at the handing over, in that 7th house year, Mercury hands over to Venus, which is exalted in Pisces, adding even more sweetness and support into the year, especially for writing projects as well as publishing and interpersonal matters. All kinds of Mercury threads get the input and expert guidance of Venus in Pisces for this year.
So, digging in with some of these advanced techniques helps add even more detail to the profections year ahead picture.
