Northumbrian Water has announced the launch of a new collaboration with British AI company, Aiimi. The firms hope the partnership will deploy AI and data tools, to deliver critical operational improvements and efficiency gains.
Northumbrian Water is a water company in Britain, providing mains water and sewerage services in the English counties of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham and parts of North Yorkshire, while also supplying water as Essex and Suffolk Water. Each year, the group hosts an Innovation Festival, where it looks at a range of challenges currently facing its business, as well as broader environmental issues impacting the wider water industry and the communities its customers reside in.
The company markets itself as being at the head of innovation in the utilities sector – hosting the Northumbrian Water Innovation Festival each year. As it looks to harness the power of technology for its own operations, it has announced a new alliance with Aiimi.
Kacper Konstanczak, head of intelligence analytics at Northumbrian Water, said, “Aiimi has been a trusted Data partner to Northumbrian Water Group for over five years. Their utilities sector expertise and broad capabilities – from strategy to data and AI engineering – have been key to supporting our innovation agenda and instrumental in helping us evolve our operating model to support the rapid growth of our Intelligence & Analytics function. As organisations seek to leverage the true power of their data and unlock the possibilities of AI, we’re pleased to be setting an industry standard on how this can be done safely, effectively and impactfully.”
Aiimi specialises in consulting on workplace AI platforms, with its experts working to help enterprises better harness their data. The new agreement is part of an insights and analytics framework, and builds upon a series of successful partnerships between Aiimi and NWL over the last seven years. Working alongside teams at Northumberland Water, this latest collaboration will see Aiimi deliver data-driven products that help build resilient and sustainable water and wastewater services over the course of AMP8 (April 2025 to March 2030).
Aiimi’s other water sector experience includes ongoing collaborations with Anglian Water and Yorkshire Water. The AI and data specialists’ technology and services have also been used by Severn Trent, United Utilities and Ofwat. As part of the new framework and ongoing partnership, Aiimi will also be supporting Northumbrian Water to develop data governance capabilities that support the company’s AI ambitions.
Aiimi CEO Steve Salvin, argued, “Water companies are being asked to do more with less amidst increased service demand and grave climate change. These challenges must be met with innovative, data-driven digital solutions that can truly unlock the power of AI. We’ve already laid the groundwork for this in our Digital and Data Strategy work with Northumbrian Water. Now, it’s time to get to work on bringing the strategy to life though bespoke products developed in collaboration with the water company. This new partnership puts Northumbrian Water at the forefront of the sector’s digital, data and AI transformation, as well as cementing Aiimi’s reputation as the go-to partner for innovative, forward-thinking water companies.”
