ScottishPower Renewables partners with Accenture for offshore wind farm in North Sea

East Anglia TWO is a major windfarm development, planned to go live from 2028. ScottishPower Renewables has chosen Accenture company BOSLAN to supervise the manufacturing and quality control of key components for the process.

The United Kingdom is a strong location for wind power in Europe. The combination of long coastline, shallow water and strong winds make offshore wind unusually effective. By 2025, the UK had over 12,000 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 32 gigawatts: 16 GW onshore and 16 GW offshore, the fifth largest capacity of any country. In that year, wind generated over 85 TWh of electricity, almost 30% of Great Britain’s total generation.

As Britain looks to decrease its dependence on rapidly fluctuating oil and gas prices – and as it aims to decarbonise its economy – further investment in wind power is crucial. To that end, ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) is developing a new windfarm in the North Sea.

Based 33 kilometres from the shore of Suffolk – close to the town of Southwold – East Anglia TWO’s 64 turbines will generate enough clean energy to power 1 million homes. Offshore construction is expected to get underway in 2027, with the windfarm becoming operational in 2028.

As it looks to ensure the project is delivered on time, SPR has appointed experts from BOSLAN, to supervise the manufacturing and quality control of key components the plans. BOSLAN’s expertise in infrastructure and capital projects, renewable energy and digital solutions will help the renewable energy developer complete the wind farm efficiently and according to schedule.

“East Anglia TWO is a significant and complex project, so it’s great to be able to leverage the synergies offered by BOSLAN as a single supplier to ensure quality and timely delivery,” said Michael Hotze, East Anglia TWO execution director. “We look forward to getting started and bringing more cleaner, greener energy to the UK.”

BOSLAN

An Accenture company, BOSLAN has more than two decades of experience in complex energy and infrastructure programs, and brings deep expertise in managing large‑scale capital projects. The firm will now support SPR’s acceptance of components including offshore and onshore substations, the platform’s foundations, inter-array cables, export cables, wind turbines and other mechanical equipment.

A multidisciplinary team of fabrication engineers, electrical engineers, welding inspectors and other specialists will deliver offshore and onshore services to the client, including the inspection of all factories where key components are produced, and quality management for components. The firm will also oversee quality assurance for pre-assembly, supervision of inspection services for onshore and offshore logistics, and the coordination of offshore construction and installation activities.

“East Anglia TWO is one of the most significant renewable energy projects in the UK, and we are committed to helping ScottishPower Renewables deliver it,” added Isaac Gómez, CEO of BOSLAN. “BOSLAN and Accenture will bring energy industry experience and expertise in infrastructure and capital projects, AI and data, all contributing to project success for ScottishPower Renewables and the energy transition in the UK.”
