Ubisoft has released a new deep dive into Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, focusing on the remake’s updated naval gameplay. The latest breakdown features Lead Naval Designer Guilhem Marin and covers changes to exploration, combat, ship upgrades, crew systems, and open-sea activities.

Seamless Sailing and New Navigation Tools

The Jackdaw remains central to Edward Kenway’s journey, but Ubisoft says Resynced removes loading screens between naval gameplay and major cities. Two new navigation tools have also been added: Pathfinder, which highlights a route across the water, and Follow Sea, an autopilot option that lets the ship steer itself to a selected destination.

Sea shanties are also returning, with all 35 original songs included alongside 10 new shanties tied to quests and activities. Players can now choose specific songs through a new shanty wheel.

Forts, Weather, and Open-Sea Activities

Forts now use a dynamic morale system in which player actions lower enemy morale before the commander joins the fight. Capturing forts reveals new points of interest and unlocks additional missions for Kenway’s Fleet.

The sea itself has also been updated through the Anvil engine’s Atmos weather system, adding rogue winds, waves, storms, waterspouts, and lightning strikes that can damage the surrounding area.

Diving, Harpooning, and Kenway’s Fleet Return

Naval side activities return, including diving, harpooning, and ship looting. Resynced also adds a Dive Anywhere feature, allowing Edward to swim beneath the surface outside of Diving Bell areas to find hidden loot or approach targets stealthily.

Kenway’s Fleet is also back and now fully built into the game rather than tied to a companion app. Captured ships can be sent on missions to generate passive income, trade goods, and rare activity spawns.

Naval Combat Adds New Options

Ubisoft has added secondary firing modes to all Jackdaw weapons. These include the Ram Dash, Deadman’s Cohort mortar upgrade, double-shot bow chaser cannons, heated broadside shots, and shrapnel barrels that can shred enemy sails.

The Wanted System also returns, with Pirate Hunters pursuing Edward as his notoriety rises. Boarding ships remains the best way to earn loot, and players can now claim a Captain’s Lockbox from larger ships for extra reales.

Officers and Legendary Ships

New to Resynced, Edward can recruit officers for the Jackdaw by finding them in the open world and completing their quests. Officers provide permanent perks, including Perfect Brace, Ram Dash, and improved broadside damage.

Legendary Ships are also returning as endgame naval challenges, with rebuilt encounters and unique cosmetic rewards for the Jackdaw. Ubisoft says these battles will be tougher than the original and will respawn after a while.
