A mysterious new rumor has been making waves in the gaming community as FromSoftware’s latest project has allegedly surfaced online. Cerulean Onslaught, a pirate-themed Soulslike that may or may not exist, has been leaked by an anonymous 4chan user. Like any leak, it’s to be taken with a grain of salt. 4chan has been the source of legitimate leaks in the past, however. Bloodborne was famously leaked on the site before its release in 2015, so these new rumors could be promising.
What We Know About Cerulean Onslaught
Cerulean Onslaught is rumored to be a dark fantasy RPG set in a naval-based open-world. Players will explore the vast expanse of the game onboard a customizable ship that doubles as a home base. This seems to link back to another leak claiming FromSoftware was working on a project under the codename FMC, which was also said to be based on a gargantuan shipwreck.
Another post on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit by user The-Noob-Smoke suggested that the game would not be open-world but instead take place on a massive island-sized shipwreck that “crashed on top and merged with an island.” This does contradict the original 4chan leak but also backs up the FMC rumors. Of course, none of this has been confirmed by FromSoftware, and even the most solid of leaks sometimes never come to fruition, so we eagerly await for official confirmation.
Cerulean Onslaught’s Supposed Release Window
Apparently, we won’t have to wait long, either, as it’s also rumored that Cerulean Onslaught will be announced at the upcoming Summer Games Fest on June 5th. This epic swashbuckling adventure could come with a supposed release window of August 2026, seemingly before The Duskbloods and the Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition release for the Switch 2.
This is where the leaks fall apart for many. An August 2026 release window seems ambitious, to say the least. But it could have been accelerated to avoid GTA6’s rumored November release that has had many of the industry’s publishers scrambling. With FromSoftware currently working on two Switch 2 releases, one of which is a brand-new experience, it seems unrealistic that they would also be crafting a massive, potentially open-world experience under wraps on the side. A release window of mere months would also leave little time to give the title the advertising it deserves. Elden Ring had a 260-day advertising campaign which was instrumental in the game’s worldwide success.
With no solid evidence to go off of, all we can do is eagerly await a potential announcement at Summer Game Fest. A Soulslike set on the seven seas sounds undoubtedly epic, especially after the recent success of the pirate-themed survival game Windrose. The good news is, with Summer Game Fest fast approaching on June 5th, we don’t have long to wait.
