The latest weekly Crimson Desert update from Pearl Abyss has taken a slightly different direction compared to previous patches, but it’s still just as important. Instead of a content addition, it’s a new feature: controller button remapping.
At launch, the game’s control scheme was heavily criticised for being too complex. Pearl Abyss patched in a simplified control scheme shortly after release, and now it’s gone one step further by letting you assign every button on the PS5 controller to any action you want.
You can access the feature now on PS5, having downloaded patch 1.09, which is available now.
On top of the new feature, Crimson Desert now sports an additional 30 species of small animals that could all become your pets, and there are new animations for picking them up and putting them down when they want some fuss. Further, some new skills for side characters Oongka and Damiane have been added.
Today’s update only works to improve a game we issued a re-review to last week, which brought our final score up from a 6/10 to an 8/10. “It’s an all-consuming open world adventure that hits some truly incredible highs, and it’s already come a long, long way since launch,” we said. “If you can stomach its more obtuse moments — of which there are many — then Crimson Desert borders on being brilliant.”
