The long wait for Nintendo fans is almost over. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will finally be yours on August 28th, 2026! The Tarnished Edition comes with the full base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion, and customization options for your loyal steed, Torrent. But that’s merely the tip of the iceberg. Even more goodies were announced, and they benefit all players, not just Switch 2 owners!

Two brand-new classes and armor will be introduced alongside the Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and the pack will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, and Steam; not just the Switch 2. So if you’ve been holding off on your next playthrough, August 28th is the time to dive back into the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow.

Everything We Know About the New Elden Ring Classes

Elden Ring already comes with some great classes to start with, but two more will be joining the fray in August: the Heavy Knight and the Idus Knight.

The Heavy Knight

The Heavy Knight is a beefcake knight in shining armor type who wields a massive (previously unseen) scimitar and doesn’t even need a shield. The brief description given to us about the Heavy Knight states that he is capable of “mowing through foes,” and we don’t doubt that for a second.

We don’t have much to go off other than that brief description and the Heavy Knight’s pfp, but they’re shaping up to be a good contender for a strength build. The mysterious scimitar is interesting, as well, as it appears to be a new weapon. New weapons are always welcomed, and discovering more about the scimitar is definitely high up on my Tarnished to-do list.

The Idus Knight

The Idus Knight is smaller and more lithe than the Heavy Knight. Their armor looks much more flexible, making for a more dexterous build. If your play style values more speed over strength, the Idus Knight might be a better fit than their heavy counterpart. I personally do much better with faster builds that can swiftly flip out of danger, so the Idus Knight will be my pick.

Heavy characters are powerhouses, but they are usually much slower, leaving you vulnerable for longer periods of time. That’s a recipe for me getting my butt beat. Give me someone who can flip out of harm’s way every time! Dodge rolling your way around an Elden Ring boss in a heavy suit of armor sounds like a workout, to say the least. My glasses are fogging up just thinking about those logistics.

The Idus Knight has the dexterity, but that’s not all that catches my eye. The weapon the Idus Knight wields appears to be the Milady Light Greatsword, which was previously only attainable in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Getting your hands on this weapon was not easy, either. It was hidden in a chest at the tippy top of the watchtower in Castle Ensis, and finding it would take a substantial amount of time. Starting the game with this weapon is a clear drawcard for the Idus Knight.

How Much Will the Tarnished Edition Cost?

Now that we have a solid date to put on our calendars, all that’s left is to find out how much the Tarnished Edition will cost, particularly for players who already have the game. A free download would, of course, be preferred. This doesn’t seem to be the case, though, given the particular wording used in the June 4 press release announcement. The press release mentions the following: “ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition is coming 28 August to Nintendo Switch 2, and the new content will also be available to purchase for PS4, PS5, XBOX One, XBOX Series X|S, and PC via Steam.”—“To purchase” being the key words here.

More information was given in the Japanese announcement, however, where it was revealed that the ‘Tarnished Pack’ would cost 550 yen. This converts to around four US dollars, which is an acceptable price. The base game itself is already on the pricier side, so if the pack only costs around $5.00 or so, players will likely be happy with that.
