Love and Deepspace, a mobile gacha game developed and published by Papergames, has run into a bit of an odd censorship problem in China during the advertising campaign for its latest in-game event, “Lingering Lust,” due to the country’s strict laws regarding NSFW content. However, after the trailer for the new event was censored twice, Papergames has resorted to a rather inventive form of artistic expression: stick figures.
OK, so, there’s a lot of conflicting information out there surrounding this, which is almost definitely even more difficult to parse due to the language barrier, but here’s what I was able to discern: Earlier this week, trailers and teasers started rolling out for the bathtub-focused Lingering Lust event, which features the female player character rolling around in the water with Love and Deepspace’s romanceable hunks.
If you’re curious what the uncensored trailer should look like, and hey, I’m not judging, here you go. It’s pretty tame, honestly, but…maybe don’t make the same mistake I did and watch it without headphones on. Also, funny aside, but the Instagram post is apparently too raunchy to embed, so enjoy a different, text-based version of the censored trailer (which I will explain later).

Now, the main trailer has seemingly been censored outright in China. From what I was able to research, Papergames actually released two censored versions of this trailer which, rather cleverly, countered the steaminess by covering parts of the visuals with steam from the bath. The first censored version wasn’t steamy enough—or, well, was still too steamy, I guess—so the second version introduced even more steam to cover up the naughtiness, to the point that the third trailer looks more akin to watching two people hotboxing inside of a Honda Civic.
But, alas, this third version was still deemed to be too raunchy. While I couldn’t find it on any of the official Chinese Love and Deepspace socials, a version of it is still available on the Love and Deepspace Taiwan Instagram.
However, the main trailer isn’t actually the one that Papergames decided to get creative with. Five separate “PV” (Player View) teaser trailers were released for the Lingering Lust event, each of which focused on one of the five individual romanceable characters in Love and Deepspace. Much like the main trailer, these were subsequently taken down, prompting Papergames to replace the men with stick figures.
Guys I’m actually crying, Love and Deepspace should do this for all trailers moving forward LMAOOOOOOOO
Yes this is an official trailer and wth did Sylus just spank MC? 🤯 https://t.co/3FN4NDC0fU

But, if you can believe it, these were also considered too lewd for Chinese social media. I’m not kidding, by the way; the only way we know these exist is because Papergames was so proud of the stick figure trailers that they opted to upload them to every Love and Deepspace social account outside of China.
So, what is China getting instead? Text on a black screen. As you can once again see on the Love and Deepspace Taiwan Instagram page, the stick figure trailers were replaced with some sexy text on a black background, alongside the audio from said trailers, which is, frankly, way more horny than the visuals anyway. In fact, Papergames has even had to resort to using these text-based teasers on billboards in China.
As the Lingering Lust event was just released today, I haven’t been able to figure out if the actual content of the update has also been censored in China. That being said, Papergames haa had to censor in-game content in China in the past, so I’d be surprised if the event hasn’t been altered in some way.
