You may recall that SCS Software announced both of its popular titles — American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 — for consoles a while ago, including PS5.
Since then, the games have been available to wishlist on PS Store, but we’ve not heard a whole lot since.
It’s been nearly eight months since the ports were officially confirmed, so we’ve been wondering what exactly is going on.
As it so happens, SCS Software just recently released this video, providing an update of sorts on the status of the console versions of their highly-regarded trucking sims:
If you’re really excited for these games to come to PS5 and have a spare half-hour, it’s worth a watch. It gets into the weeds of the work required to get the sims onto consoles, and frankly, it sounds like a massive headache.
In a nutshell, SCS Software is having to pull apart its games and do a lot of additional work to make them the best they can be on consoles. Not only does that involve optimisations and making sure they run nicely, but it necessitates an overhaul of UI, controls, and more besides.
For those curious if the team alludes to any sort of release timing, unfortunately they don’t give anything away.
It seems to us that the games are still pretty far out from release on PS5. It’s always nice to have some sort of update from the devs, though; hopefully it won’t be too far in the future before we’re on the road.
