Nex Playground, the motion-tracking video game console that outsold Xbox in the United States during the 2025 holiday season (via The Verge), is launching in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
The move marks the first time the console, pitched as a controller-free “active play system” designed to get families moving together, is being made available outside of North America.
Nex president and head of international Tom Kang said the company is taking a big swing in 2026 by attempting to establish the platform on the global stage.
The Nex Playground is currently on track to surpass 1 million sales in North America and is now available for pre-order at major UK retailers including Argos, Smyths, and Amazon.
It will retail for £269 (€319) in the region and come with five free starter games so people can play straight out of the box. The product is expected to hit shelves starting in late June.
Additional software is accessible via a quarterly or annual ‘Play Pass’ subscription that features over 60 titles, including some based on major franchises like Bluey, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Dora the Explorer.
Annual and quarterly Play Pass subscriptions will cost £90 (€99) and £45 (€49), respectively.
Given the device is targeting younger players, Nex has stressed that trust and safety are being treated as a “core part” of the platform rather than a mandatory compliance layer.
“Motion-tracking data and processing stay local to the device, and every system includes a built-in camera cover,” read a press release.
“As the sole publisher of every game on the platform, Nex is directly accountable for the trust, safety, and certification of the entire experience. Nex Playground aligns with GDPR requirements, earning PEGI 3 age ratings on the included starter bundle, and maintaining kidSAFE+ certification alongside COPPA compliance in the United States.”
The Nex Playground has also been designed as a closed ecosystem with no advertisements or mature content. Nex said this will create a “secure gaming environment” for children.
