In this article, we will be talking about Where Winds Meet, the Chinese martial arts or wuxia game that has captivated a global audience.
With the game having 15 different Martial Arts and 8 different weapons that you can use, it can feel a little daunting to choose which ones to employ.
This guide is here to show you a quick-attacking build that excels at dealing with both single targets and groups of enemies through area damage, focusing purely on offense.
Where Winds Meet: The Spring Umbrella Build
In this guide We’ll be talking about a ranged dps build that mainly focuses on ranged attack and AoE damage
Martial Arts
In Where Winds Meet, you can utilize two different martial arts at any given time to perform various combos of strikes, allowing you to fight in multiple different ways.
For this build, we will be using the Infernal Twin Blades and the Everspring Umbrella martial arts, allowing us to deal massive amounts of damage both at close range and from a distance.
Infernal Twin Blades
In Where Winds Meet, we will be able to utilize two martial arts at any given time and for this DPS-oriented build, the Infernal Twin Blades fit well.
This is a martial art that uses dual swords and has the highest attack speed amongst all the martial arts, with fast slashes focusing on the offense.
The Infernal Twin Blades can perform four consecutive attacks with the light attack delivering swift slashes.
The unique aspect of the Infernal Twin Blades martial arts is that it doesn’t have a heavy attack, but a buff called Flamelash in its place. This can be used when the special resource “Karmic Flame” is full—which is filled up by landing light attacks—to go into a state called the “Wrathful Form.”
In this state, you are immune to status effects and gain multiple bonuses such as life steal, 10% Critical Rate, and 20% Critical Damage.
Our light attacks also receive a 5th combo while also increasing our attack speed even further while we are in the buffed Wrathful Form. The buff will deplete once the Karmic Flame runs out and you will have to fill the bar again to use the buff.
Skills
For the first skill, the Infernal Twin Blades martial arts has Addled Mind, which will perform a long-range spinning dash attack.
If the skill is performed at close range, it will hit the enemy multiple times for the duration of the skill and is useful both for mobility and offense.
The second skill is called Calamity’s Greed and with this skill, you will kick the long blade forward, causing it to spin rapidly and hit the enemies multiple times before returning.
If the skill is used a second time before the blade returns, you will follow up with a wide horizontal slash that deals a huge amount of damage.
Talents
Regarding the talents, the first one for the Infernal Twin Blades enhances our perfect dodge by increasing the trigger window.
Upon triggering the perfect dodge, it will also increase the slow-down time while also restoring a charge of the first skill Addled Mind by resetting the cooldown.
For the scaling, the Infernal Twin Blades will allow our Min Physical Attack to scale with our Agility stat and also, during the Flamelash buff, your Critical DMG bonus will scale with the Min Physical Attack, increasing the damage output.
The Infernal Twin Blades martial arts belong to the Bamboocut attribute family and the damage of your attacks while using the twin blades will scale along with the Bamboocut attack stat.
Everspring Umbrella
The second Martial Arts Technique we will be using with this build is the Everspring Umbrella.
This is also another ranged attack focused martial art emphasizing on mobility and area of effect attacks, making it ideal for both mobs and bosses.
The Everspring Umbrella has a three-hit light attack combo that will send off projectiles at medium range. While this does not provide a huge burst of attack, it is a great way to deal consistent damage, but this martial art does not have a charged light attack.
The Everspring Umbrella also has a heavy attack that performs a more close-ranged four-hit combo and is great for dealing area of damage against multiple enemies when they get too close to you, as the fourth hit of the combo covers a large area throwing the open umbrella in a circle around you.
The charged skill for the heavy attacks of Everspring Umbrella is known as Dreamwrought Bubbles.
This move will throw a returning umbrella forward, dealing damage twice to enemies in its path. While the umbrella reaches its furthest point, it will generate a phantom umbrella for 5s.
Skills
Regarding the skills of the Everspring Umbrella, the first is the Scarlet Spin, which grants “Flower Burial” for 12 seconds and uses the unique resource for the martial art, “Fading Crimson”.
While the resource generates passively, during “Flower Burial” it will stop regenerating, and consuming 1 Fading Crimson allows you to throw 1 returning umbrella, dealing damage twice to enemies in its path.
The Flower Burial state is lost when the duration ends or your Fading Crimson is depleted. If you’re throwing out multiple attacks, timing the next skill with a returning umbrella will enhance your next throw and increase your damage with Scarlet Spin.
The second skill of the Everspring Umbrella is called the Cyclone Waltz.
This skill will spin the umbrella rapidly on the ground gaining Tenacity and dealing continuous multi-hit damage while pulling in nearby enemies. Since you can move freely while spinning, you can easily group up mobs together and take them out with large AoE attacks.
Talents
Regarding the talents for the Everspring Umbrella, the first talent will enhance the Perfect Catch mechanic of the martial arts and will increase the resilience damage of the Scarlet Spin skill.
The martial arts will also allow us to scale our damage output with the Agility stat and the damage output of our Spinning Umbrella skill with the Min Physical attack. These two talents help us become more effective at dealing damage.
The Everspring Umbrella is a martial art related to the Bamboocut attribute and trying to increase it as much as possible will increase the effectiveness of your damage when using this martial art.
How to Obtain the Martial Arts
For the first martial art, the Infernal Twinblades, there are multiple ways by which we can obtain it. The easiest and most simple way is to choose it as a reward for exchanging the first oddity at Qi Sheng. If you have already chosen other martial arts at that point, there are two ways you can obtain Infernal Twinblades.
The first is to join the Midnight Blades Sect, which requires you to find the ferryman of the guild, Icchantika, and finish the quest “To Save by Slaying.” Be warned, though, as the sect is a PvP-focused one and will ask you to engage in slaying other players.
The second way to obtain this martial art is to steal it from the sanctum located near a pond in the Crimson Cliff area. This will require you to sneak past all the guildsmen in the sanctum to get to a point where you can watch the master practicing the technique to steal the skill for yourself. Obtaining it this way means you will not have to worry about joining the sect and being kicked out of it for not following its rules.
In order to obtain the Everspring Umbrella, you will need to steal it from the Everspring Garden located in the South Imperial Garden of the Kaifeng area. You will need to sneak past the guards and find a route to get near the martial arts master and then learn it through the skill theft mini-game.
Mystic Skills
Our arsenal in Where Winds Meet is not limited to the Martial Arts, but we will also be able to use various skills.
Meridian Touch
The first mystic skill we will be using with this build has use in exploration and for interaction with NPCs. In combat, it has a chance to immobilize enemies in place, leaving them wide open for your attacks. Even when it doesn’t immobilize, the skill deals physical damage and is great to weave into the end of your weapon combos.
The second mystic skill we will be using is a little costly with a 35 Vitality cost but is a powerful one as you will vault into the air and unleash a flurry of kicks. The first blow launches your opponent airborne with the following strikes keeping them airborne, ending in a huge slam dealing AoE damage.
Yaksha Rush
The third mystic skill we will be using costs 15 Vitality with a 2 second cooldown. This will let you lunge forward, striking the enemy and breaking their defense before following up with an upward kick dealing two damaging hits.
Talon Strike The fourth mystic skill we are using also costs 15 Vitality with a 2 second cooldown. This is a fast-striking skill that will break the defense first followed by a 3-hit strike to deal Qi and physical damage.
How to Obtain the Mystic Skills
The first mystic skill we are using with this build, Meridian Touch, can be obtained early in the game by interacting with Yan Qiren. He can be found in a quarry near the Stonewash Strand teleporter, surrounded by dozens of statues. The skill can be obtained by interacting with him for the first time.
The Free Morph and Yaksha Rush Mystic Skills can be obtained from beating “Tiang Ying” in the Halo Peak campaign. Free Morph will require you to fight against “Tiang Ying” in the challenge and deflect his “free morph” kicks until you’ve learned the skill. The Yaksha Rush skill will be obtained once you’ve beaten the Halo Peak campaign for the first time.
The Talon Strike Mystic skill can be learned through skill theft from a golden eagle in the Palace of the Annals area. The bird can be found on a ledge that you can get to from a cliff across a rope bridge that is guarded by a large number of Aureate enemies. Alternatively, you can climb the cliff from the base to reach the edge with the nest to reach the skill theft point.
Inner Ways
In addition to the Martial Arts and Mystic Skills, we will also be able to increase the power of our build through the passives from the Inner Ways.
Echoes of Oblivion
The first inner way we will be using this build is the Echoes of Oblivion, which will buff our Infernal Twinblades. With this inner way, our infernal blades will apply Sin when we’re using our normal attacks and Karma while we are in our “Wrathful State” using the Flame Leash.
Once targets are affected by both Sin and Karma, our attacks will ignore 10% of their physical defense and 10% Bamboocut affinity resistance, increasing our damage even further with the Dual Swords.
Upgrading this inner way will increase the damage dealt by 5% through the Samsara buff by inflicting both Sin and Karma through the light attacks of the Infernal Twinblades.
Song of Tang
The second inner way we will be using is the Song of Tang. This will give you a stackable buff called Tang Melody whenever you deal damage with a Martial Arts skill.
For each stack of the buff, your martial arts skills gain 2% Critical damage while you’re above 50% health and 2% lifesteal when you’re below 50% health.
This is a great inner way providing both damage and sustain through its two effects and the versatile nature is extremely helpful during prolonged fights.
Upon upgrading the inner way through breaking through, you will be able to increase the duration of the buff up to 7 seconds and at tier 3, the bonuses to both Critical Damage and HP Drain will increase to 3% boosting the effectiveness of the inner way.
Bitter Seasons
The third inner way that we will be using for this build is the Bitter Seasons. This will give all of your attacks a 10% chance to apply a poison. In addition to dealing damage, the poison can stack up to 5 times and will also reduce the target’s Physical Defense by 1.2% per stack up to a total of 6% for 10 seconds.
With breakthroughs, the inner way can increase the chance to poison up to 15% at Tier 4 while also giving further reductions to physical resistance at higher tiers.
Phantom Rally
The last inner ways we will be using is Phantom Rally, which will summon an additional Phantom Umbrella after the 3rd throw. Additionally, performing Perfect Catches with the Scarlet Spin skill will trigger resonance explosions which deal area of damage around the Phantom Umbrellas, making it easy to take out groups of mobs.
When breaking through this inner way, it will make it easier to throw more umbrellas with the Scarlet Spin skill as Perfect Catches will restore Fading Crimson and higher tiers will increase the damage dealt by Resonance explosions.{
How to Obtain the Inner Ways
For the first inner way, you do not need to go out of the way to search for it as the tome for Echoes of Oblivion is a reward for the quest “For Whom Does He Return” which is part of the main story line.
The second inner way for this build, the Song of Tang, can be obtained after completing the “In the Quiet of the Night” Jianghu Legacy which is the first part of the Hexi campaign.
The third inner way, Bitter Seasons, you will need to finish the Gleaming Abyss Lost Chapter campaign and defeat the Void King. After defeating the boss, go through the mist fog in the doorway and you will find the inner way in a chest near the house.
Lastly, the Phantom Rally tome can be obtained after beating the boss of the Whitecrown City Campaign in the Hexi region.
Gear
Regarding the Gear, there are two different gear sets you can put together: one for weapons and accessories while the other is for armor pieces.
With the weapon gear set, the Swallowcall set is good for this build as it will increase our Min Physical Attack scaling with the gear level at 2 pieces and at the full 4 pieces, the set will increase the damage our Light Attacks deal by 15% more damage to targets with Qi below 40% and an additional 5% more against Exhausted targets.
Regarding the stats, we will be looking to increase our Bamboocut attack stat and Critical Rate to increase the damage using our Infernal Twinblades. Ideally, you will want to stack up as much Bamboocut stats as possible to buff both of the martial arts, helping with both melee and ranged damage.
For the armor gear set, the Agile Steps set provides great defense for this build. At 2 pieces, the set will give us an extra 1020 max HP, which scales with the gear tier, allowing us to take more hits; at the full 4 pieces, it gives us a 20% damage reduction for 2 seconds stacking up to 3 times for a maximum of 60% upon successful deflections.
Regarding the stats, we will be looking for as many Agility stat bonuses as possible to help with our Critical Rate scaling with both weapons while having Physical Attack bonuses helping with the overall damage output.
Additionally, Where Winds Meet has an arsenal system where you put your old gear to gain additional bonuses to your attacks once you’ve reached World Tier 6.
For this build, we will switch our bonus to the Bamboocut route to give a boost to our Min and Max Bamboocut attack stats, helping with both of our martial arts as they both belong to the Bamboocut family.
Final Tips
The Infernal Spring build excels at dealing damage regardless of the range and can perform well in most situations, including both PvE and PvP scenarios.
During exploration, you can start your attack using the Everspring Umbrella to burst down the health of enemies before switching to the Twin Blades to quickly finish off the tougher ones that remain.
The Infernal Twin Blades have the fastest attack speed amongst all the martial arts, which gives them a greater chance to apply the poison from our Bitter Seasons inner way.
Combined with the high critical rate and damage, this martial art has the potential to deal the highest amount of damage in all situations.
While the damage is high and the twin blades can easily help you become the top damage dealer in raid boss fights, they have less staggering potential when fighting other players.
While both skills have the potential to stagger an opponent, the staggering strike can be difficult to land against a moving foe.
The mystic skills Yaksha Rush and Talon Strike will help in such cases, as they will break the defense of your opponent with their initial strikes.
Alternatively, Scarlet Spin is a great way to catch your enemy since the area of effect damage from Resonance can easily reach your foe, and Cyclone Waltz can be used to trap your enemy while dealing damage.
These two martial arts provide a great combination able to deal with any kind of situation you might run into, especially in the later parts of the game.
While the twin blades will be the main source of damage for single targets, the Everspring Umbrella also provides a great way to deal with groups of enemies easily.
The additional damage from Resonance triggered by the Perfect Catch of the Scarlet Spin skill will allow you to deal massive amounts of burst damage within a short amount of time.
Generally, when you’re starting out, I highly encourage you to explore and collect oddities and trade them in whenever you get the chance.
The upgrades they provide will help us quickly become stronger and prevent us from facing too much trouble when we inevitably get into a fight. Also, collect herbs, ores, and hunt wildlife as you explore, as you will need these materials to enhance your gear slots. Collecting as you go will help prevent situations where you do not have enough materials to upgrade.
So, this wraps up my Infernal Spring guide for Where Winds Meet. I hope you find it helpful on your journey in the perilous world of the Chinese Wuxia world.
