New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has extended the tenure of incumbent AYUSH Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha by one-year till June 28, 2027.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Kotecha will continue to head the department for the extended tenure on existing terms and conditions until further orders. His tenure was set to expire this month.
This is the fifth extension for the senior official, who joined the AYUSH Ministry in 2017 through the lateral entry route as a Special Secretary.
Previously, he was given two two-year extensions in 2020 and 2022, followed by two one-year extensions in 2024 and 2025.
Kotecha, an ayurveda physician completed his poist-graduation from the Jamnagar-based Gujarat Ayurved University, and later served as its Vice-Chancellor between 2013 and 2016.
In 1998, he founded the Chakrapani Ayurveda Clinic and Research Centre in Jaipur.
Before starting his bureaucratic stint, he served as an member of the Advisory Panel to the Central Council of Indian Medicine, of the then Department of AYUSH, later elevated to an independent ministry in November 2014.
In 2015, Kotecha received Padma Shri in the medicine category for his contributions towards the propagation and development of Ayurveda.
