Dhanbad: A professor at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has developed a device that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) to help doctors examine the heart more quickly and accurately, according to a statement.
The device, named EchoPulse, has been created by ACS Rao of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, it said.
It studies heart scan images, understands patterns on its own, and helps doctors assess how well the heart is working without relying heavily on slow manual checks, it added.
The technology can save time and reduce the need for large amounts of pre-labelled medical data normally required for AI systems, the statement said.
One of its key features is the use of virtual reality, which allows doctors and researchers to view heart activity in an interactive 3D format, making it easier to understand heart conditions, it said.
Rao said the system can directly analyse heart scan data and detect important signs related to heart health automatically.
He said the tool also uses “explainable AI”, meaning doctors can understand how the system reaches its conclusions instead of treating it like a black box.
EchoPulse can estimate important clinical measures, such as how efficiently the heart pumps blood, which can help in early diagnosis and treatment planning, the statement said.
“By turning complex medical data into clear insights, EchoPulse could make advanced heart testing more accessible, especially in places with limited medical resources,” Rao said.
The project has received a research grant of around Rs 47 lakh from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), the statement said.
