Shillong, Apr 24: Meghalaya suffered a narrow four-wicket defeat to Mizoram in a closely fought league match of the 2nd North East Rising Cup at the ACACA Ground, Fulung, Guwahati on Friday.
After Mizoram opted to field, Meghalaya posted 122/5 in their allotted 35 overs. The innings was built around a steady top-order effort, with Aviana Myrthong scoring a fluent 27 runs off 35 balls, including six boundaries. Anuradha Gurung provided stability towards the end with an unbeaten 25 runs off 44 deliveries, while M. Syiemlieh contributed a patient 11 runs off 60 balls as Meghalaya looked to consolidate after early wickets.
Mizoram’s bowlers kept things tight, restricting scoring opportunities through the middle overs, which ultimately kept the target within reach.
In reply, Mizoram chased down 123/6 in 33.3 overs, anchored by captain Remruati PC, who remained unbeaten with a composed knock of 60 runs off 100 balls. Her innings proved decisive in guiding Mizoram home in a low-scoring but competitive encounter.
Meghalaya’s bowling unit, however, delivered a disciplined performance. Aniesha Arengh stood out with figures of 2/16 in 7 overs, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 2.29. Badphihirta L Nonglait (1/9 in 5 overs) and Haphilahun Makri (1/6 in 3 overs) also kept the pressure on, making the chase far from straightforward.
Tripura thrash Sikkim
In another match of the day at Judges Field, Tripura U-15 Girls registered a dominant 171-run win over Sikkim U-15 Girls.
Batting first, Tripura amassed 210/3 in 35 overs, powered by Sayantika Sutradhar (67 off 68), Hrishita Sutradhar (41 off 76) and Christina Rema (31 off 27).
Sikkim’s response faltered as they were bowled out for just 39 runs in 17.2 overs. Diya Sarkar starred with the ball, claiming 5/16, while Alankrita Saha produced a remarkable spell of 4 wickets without conceding a run.
