Understanding the methods used by cyber criminals is the first line of defence against cyber fraud, District Police Chief (Kochi City) S. Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar said here on Wednesday. He was inaugurating a cyber awareness session for students at Government Law College, Ernakulam, on Tuesday.

The programme was organised by the Kochi City police as part of the ongoing ‘Safe Kochi City’ initiative aimed at raising awareness about cyber financial frauds and the growing threat of money mule accounts among young people.

The official warned about emerging cybercrime trends, including virtual arrest scams, AI-driven deepfake frauds, transnational scam networks operating from countries such as Cambodia, and various forms of social engineering and psychological manipulation.

K.S. Shahansha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order-II), Kochi City, delivered the felicitation address. The meeting was chaired by Bindumol V.C., Principal-in-Charge, Government Law College.

The technical session on ‘Cyber Financial Fraud and Mule Accounts’ was led by Arun R., senior civil police officer attached to the Cyber Police Station, Kochi.
