The U.S. Department of Justice has signed off on Paramount Skydance’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, a person familiar with the matter told CNBC Friday.
Paramount didn’t immediately respond to comment. Politico first reported the government approval.
While the company received the greenlight, it could still face legal challenges from state attorneys general, including Rob Bonta in California, according to prior reports.
Paramount CEO David Ellison told investors during the company’s April earnings call that the deal was on track to close by September. The proposed merger has already received WBD shareholder approval.
