The Blue Jays announced shortly after Wednesday’s 2-1 win that Fisher will serve as an opener on Thursday at Yankee Stadium (7:05 p.m. ET / 4:05 p.m. PT on Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet+).
It is expected that right-hander Spencer Miles will handle bulk duties in the series finale, but that will come after Fisher handles the top of New York’s order.
Fisher previously pitched as an opener on April 17 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, throwing a scoreless first inning.
For the season, Fisher owns a 3.08 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. He pitched on Monday against the Yankees, allowing one hit over 1.2 innings of work.
Miles, meanwhile, is slated to pitch in Toronto’s vacant rotation spot as it looks for reinforcements, either in the form of the injured Max Scherzer or Shane Bieber.
“You don’t want to move him back and forth too much. If we’re going to do it, try to be consistent with it,” manager John Schneider said Monday.
Miles threw a season-high 3.2 innings and 56 pitches in his most recent outing against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. The 25-year-old struck out five and walked two after entering in relief of Mason Fluharty to start the second inning.
