The 2025 all-star is set to have meniscus surgery on his left knee, Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters on Wednesday.
Boyd, 35, had just returned from a stint on the 15-day IL on April 22, missing a couple weeks due to a left-bicep strain.
The left-hander agreed to a two-year, $29-million contract with the Cubs prior to the 2025 season.
He had a 3.21 ERA with 154 strikeouts and 42 walks over 31 starts last year, and made the an all-star team for the first time in his career at age 34.
However, Boyd has struggled amid injury issues so far this season, recording a 6.00 ERA. Although, he does have 31 strikeouts to only six walks over 24 innings, and most recently pitched his first quality start of the season on May 3 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
