Manly will be understrength for their clash with Cronulla at Shark Park on Friday night, with NSW State of Origin stars Tolu Koula and Haumole Olakau’atu both ruled out.

Calls will be made on a host of other Origin stars, including Kalyn Ponga, Cameron Munster and Nathan Cleary, over the coming days.

Koula has to miss the Sharks clash after he suffered a concussion during NSW’s 22-20 win over Queensland in the Origin opener on Wednesday night, having collided with Ponga in an incident that turned the game.

Olakau’atu is not carrying an injury but Manly coach Kieran Foran has decided to give the barnstorming back-rower a rest.

“We are going to take the long-game approach with those two boys [Koula and Olakau’atu],” Foran said on Thursday.

“It’s pretty risky to throw them back out there 48 hours after a big game like that so it will be good for them to freshen up.”

Olakau’atu made 97 run metres from 10 carries, laid 25 tackles and got through 67 minutes of game time on his Origin debut.
