Plateau United defender Wisdom Ndon has praised the club’s supporters after the team secured their place in the Nigeria Premier Football League following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kano Pillars in Jos.
The victory on the final day of the season ensured Plateau United avoided relegation after what was a very difficult campaign filled with changes, pressure, and inconsistency.
Ndon, who joined Plateau United at the start of the season from Akwa United FC, stood out as one of the bright spots in a tough year for the club. The team also went through a coaching change during the season after a poor first half of the campaign.
Speaking after survival was confirmed, the defender admitted it was one of the toughest seasons of his career.
“It’s been God all through. It’s been a tough season. I have not experienced a tougher season in the Nigerian league,” Ndon said.
He also praised the fans for standing by the team during difficult moments.
“I give kudos to our supporters because the first round was very, very terrible but their support really boosted us. And now all thanks to God we are safe today,” he added.
The defender promised a stronger performance next season, assuring fans that the team will come back better.
“To all Plateau United supporters, we love you all. See you next season, we will come back stronger,” he said.
Plateau United’s narrow win over Kano Pillars proved enough to secure their safety in a dramatic final day of the season.
While Plateau United survived, the NPFL saw major shocks as reigning champions Remo Stars, El Kanemi Warriors, Bayelsa United, and Wikki Tourists were all relegated from the top flight.
Remo Stars’ title defence ended in disappointment after a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance in Benin, confirming their drop to the Nigeria National League despite winning the league the previous season.
El Kanemi Warriors also went down after a heavy 3-0 defeat to Enyimba in Aba, while Bayelsa United and Wikki Tourists had already been relegated before the final round of matches.
Kano Pillars, who lost narrowly to Plateau United in Jos, still managed to survive the drop, finishing just above the relegation zone.
