Cyle Larin played the hero to earn the Canadian men’s team its first-ever point at a FIFA World Cup on a historic day in Toronto.
Larin scored in the 78th minute as the Canadians earned a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Toronto Stadium on Friday.
The Canadians were 0-6 in World Cup games before Friday’s draw.
It was also the first-ever men’s FIFA World Cup game to be hosted on Canadian soil.
Jovo Lukic scored the lone goal of the game for Bosnia and Herzegovina on a header in the 21st minute.
Canada controlled play for the majority of the game, but was never able to find the back of the net until Larin’s breakthrough.
Canada will now head to Vancouver for its remaining Group B games. The Canadians will take on Qatar on June 18, then finish up group play against Switzerland on June 24.
